AIKE-DELLARCO is pleased to announce Tang Dixin’s solo exhibition in Shanghai, opening on November 14th and on view until December 14th. This exhibition is also the artist’s first show in China.
This exhibition presents a series of videos recording Tang Dixin’s first-person perspective, site-specific performance in various indoor spaces, accompanied with the artist’s on-site performance during the opening.
In this series of actions, Tang Dixin reinterprets social norms and in the process possibly changes the nature of the space: he climbs the objects habitually placed in private spaces, and intentionally detours from any conventional route.
Compared with his previous outdoor performances, the intrusion into private spaces that Tang Dixin enacts this time, displays a humorous and less extreme attitude. The physical divergence between the act of ‘walking’ and that of ‘climbing’ in a social environment is an imaginative interval that suggests the artist’s retreat into a subdued expression of disobedience.
