A Round Studio: Zhou Siwei

31 May - 20 July 2014

AIKE-DELLARCO is pleased to announce Zhou Siwei’s first solo exhibition in Shanghai, opening on May 31 and on view until July 20. The exhibition will showcase a series of recent paintings and installation pieces. The title "A Round Studio” derives from the artist's notion of his own practice, which he views as a cyclical journey of repetition, evolution, and progression.

Zhou Siwei constructs his paintings and installations utilising predetermined sets of colors forms and sequences. Through a process that entails both repetition and randomness, these acquire a new context. Purportedly ordinary and banal images constitute the starting points of a cyclical sequence of gestures whose ultimate purpose lies in asserting a novel visual logic based on the manipulation and re-engineering of all pre-existing structures.

In his studio, the artist adopts an identical method for all the pieces simultaneously, so that each individual work is the beginning and the conclusion of another. For this show the artist creates an ideal space embedded in a Möbius Loop, for viewers to parse out the relationships between one work and another, and each single part within the whole.
